Aedas homes; a construction company in Spain, collaborated with the Ayuntamiento of Alcalá de Henares, a city close to Madrid, to organise a photography competition called People in Cities. On 18th May 2022, I was awarded the first prize with a unanimous decision from all the judges. It is an honour and an humbling experience, and I am very grateful to the company, and municipality for organising such a wonderful cultural event.
However, I was unable to personally attend the ceremony due to obligations to an ongoing photography project, so my dear friend Elena received the prize on my behalf. The image that won the competition, talks not just about the city of Alcalá de Henares, but the emerging urban culture on global level.
The image has layers of history, future, dreams, hardworking careers, international population, and personal reflection on all these topics in an instant.
Once again, I humbly extend my gratefulness to the organisers of the competition, cordially congratulate all the other participants and fellow winners, and hope that such competitions will keep popping up in all the places, because such healthy competitions are grounds for cultural interactions, which are vital for global unity and peace.
